Abortive potency of Chlamydophila abortus in pregnant mice is not directly correlated with placental and fetal colonization levels.
Abortion, placental and fetal colonization, and levels of gamma interferon were analyzed for four Chlamydophila abortus strains presenting antigenic variations in a mouse model. Expression of virulence of these strains varied and indicated that abortion was not directly related to the number of bacteria in the placenta, and thus, other factors may have an important role in activating the aborti...
متن کاملProtection evaluation against Chlamydophila abortus challenge by DNA vaccination with a dnaK-encoding plasmid in pregnant and non-pregnant mice.
Mice were intramuscularly immunized with a dnaK-encoding DNA plasmid. The protective effect of DNA immunization against Chlamydophila abortus infection was studied in pregnant and non-pregnant mice models. In non-pregnant mice, the dnaK vaccine induced a specific humoral response with the predominant IgG2a isotype, which failed to have in vitro neutralizing properties. No delayed-type hypersens...
متن کاملPlacental histomorphology and morphometry in the pregnant mice treated with cell phone radiation
Introduction: The use of cell phones is widespread and there are public concerns regarding its possible deleterious effects on human health especially on the pregnancy outcomes. In this study, structural changes of the placenta after applying the cell phone radiation were examined in the mice model. Materials and methods: For this work, 40 pregnant Balb/C mice were randomly allocated to ...
متن کاملEndogenous interleukin-12 is not required for resolution of Chlamydophila abortus (Chlamydia psittaci serotype 1) infection in mice.
A Th1 immune response involving gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) production is required to eliminate Chlamydophila abortus infections. In this study, the role of interleukin-12 (IL-12) in protecting against C. abortus infection was investigated using IL-12(-/-) and wild-type (WT) C57BL/6 mice to determine the role of this Th1-promoting cytokine. IL-12(-/-) mice were able to eliminate the C. abortus...
متن کاملChlamydophila abortus Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
We report the first documented case of an extragestational infection with Chlamydophila abortus in humans. The pathogen was identified in a patient with severe pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) by sequence analysis of the ompA gene. Our findings raise the possibility that Chlamydiaceae other than Chlamydia trachomatis are involved in PID.
